About Me

Matthew Hamilton is a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines. His primary assignment is co-teaching high school English with a Filipinocounterpart. He recently initiated a Feature Writing and CreativeWriting class to the gifted and talented.In addition to his primary assignment, he conducts teacher workshopsand assists his community in development projects. Projects he isworking on at the present time:1. Raising money to build a Women’s Center. 2. Assisting in creating awebsite for eco-tourism and environmental awareness.


Prior to his Peace Corps service in the Philippines, Matthew was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Armenia from 2006-2008, where he also served as an English teacher.


Prior to his Peace Corps service, Matthew was the Periodicals Assistantat at Belmont Abbey College Library. Prior to that, he was the OfficeManager for North Carolina State House Representative Patrick T. McHenry during his congressional campaign and then a Legislative Assistant in McHenry’s Washington office after he won the election in 2004.


Matthew is a 1999 graduate of Belmont Abbey College with a Bachelors ofArts degree in History. His honors included the Anselm BiggsScholarship Award and the Dean’s List.After graduating from Belmont Abbey College, Matthew was clothed as a Benedictine Monk in 2000. While a monk, he wrote, “Deepening Union: The Life and Achievement of Father Thomas Oestreich, O.S.B. It waspublished in the American Benedictine Review, June 2005 issue.


Afterliving a life of prayer, solitude, and study for four years, Matthewdecided to leave the monastery.Born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, but raised in four other states,Matthew has a yearning for travel. When he is not teaching, Matthewenjoys spending his time reading, writing, and researching his nextcountry to visit.


Matthew's work of fiction and poetry can be found at Raphael's Village, Blink Ink, Six Sentences, Metazen Magazine, Flash Shot, and Crow's Nest Magazine. He has forthcoming work in Long Story Short, Dappled Things, and The Battered Suitcase.
