A Song of Oak and Squirrel

by

Damien Walters Grintalis

Wind
pushes its way
into the forest,
past deadfall
and shade-born moss.

Turns narrow branches
into delicate hands
keeping time
with a gentle chorus
of leaves.

Sends furred feet
to rush and scurry,
a dance
in this space
of air,
tangled root,
and claw-marked bark.

 ###

Motivation: The musical sound of wind in the trees.
